Swansea, UK – February 7, 2025 – The Pathway to Work event, hosted at Brangwyn Hall, successfully connected job seekers, employers, career development experts, and work-visa immigration advisors, facilitating meaningful career opportunities.

Organized by BAME Mental Health Support (BMHS), the event provided attendees with valuable insights into employment pathways and work-visa immigration processes, equipping individuals with the tools needed to navigate the UK job market and contribute to the economy. With over 35 employers and organizations in attendance, participants explored job vacancies, internships, and volunteer roles, engaging directly with HR professionals and industry leaders.

A range of expert-led sessions covered critical employment topics, including a comprehensive breakdown of UK work-visa routes and sponsorship opportunities, strategies for accelerating career growth, and practical advice for international medical graduates on navigating PLAB exams and GMC registration. Attendees also gained insights into building careers in data analysis and health informatics, alongside alternative career pathways for clinical professionals.

Reflecting on the event, Dr. Ronald Ikpe shared:

"When I saw the announcement for the Employability Event organized by BMHS, I immediately felt compelled to offer my support—just as I was guided when I first arrived in Swansea from Nigeria. It was an honor to be in a position not only to help others but also to give back to an organization that stood by me, and so many others, in our formative years. I was happy to share my insights, and together, we opened up new doors and built a brighter future!"

BMHS Expands Capacity with New Equipment and Community Support

In a significant boost to its operations, BMHS received four new computers and a printer, funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and supported by Swansea Council. This investment enhances BMHS’s ability to support participants, improve digital access, and streamline service delivery—ensuring more effective employment support.

Additionally, Faith in Families, a Swansea-based organization, provided generous donations, reinforcing a shared commitment to tackling unemployment, reducing social inequality, and empowering communities. Their support aligns with BMHS’s mission to ensure equal opportunities for growth and development, regardless of background.

Impact and Engagement

The event saw hundreds of attendees actively participating in networking sessions and one-on-one career consultations, gaining practical employment advice and direct connections with potential employers. Organizations such as South Wales Police expressed strong interest in hiring skilled candidates and continuing partnerships with BMHS for workforce development.

A Message from BMHS Leadership

"We are thrilled with the overwhelming response from job seekers, employers, and all those who contributed to the success of this event. Initiatives like these are essential in bridging the gap between talent and opportunity, ensuring that individuals from diverse backgrounds can access the support they need to thrive.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our dedicated staff, volunteers, and partner organizations whose hard work and commitment made this event possible. Your unwavering support, collaboration, and passion for empowering others are truly making a difference in people’s lives."

Alfred Oyekoya MBE, Director of BMHS
